Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing treatment

Eye-Movement Desensitization
&
Reprocessing (EMDR)

Individual telehealth sessions for adults (17+)

Offered in 50 or 90 Minute format

EMDR is an evidence-based, structured therapy approach that harnesses the power of our bodies and minds to heal themselves. EMDR allows us to re-process traumatic memories and distressing life events to an adaptive resolution. EMDR uses specific eye movements (similar to REM sleep) or alternative bilateral stimulation methods to remove barriers that have blocked adaptive information from storing in the brain. EMDR can enhance or create positive, supportive pathways in the mind through use of meditation, positive resourcing, relaxation, and gratitude.

What is EMDR?

Tired, frustrated, anxious, trauma, life is hard

EMDR also works to decrease or eliminate negative neuropathways developed from unfavorable, unpleasant, and distressing events. It is the bridge between what you know and how you feel. The eight phases of EMDR allow us to work together to identify what experiences from the past are affecting your present life, develop the skills to manage stressors and anxieties before moving on to the re-processing of those experiences. This stage is when, if you prefer, we can utilize 90 minute sessions to accelerate the process. Once all targets are processed we work together to prepare you for the future. EMDR is often paired with other therapy methods for best results.

EMDR treatment: What to expect

1

First, we will work through completing assessments and exploring your journey so far, identifying your priorities and goals. Then we will focus on developing and strengthening coping strategies, internal resources, and necessary skills for successful treatment.

2

Once you are sufficiently prepared and feel ready, we will begin to focus on decreasing the intensity of the material of these experiences by briefly bringing them to mind and using bilateral stimulation to help reprocess and reorganize the memory.

3

Once the information has been reorganized to adaptive content, we prepare you for the future you've envisioned for yourself. A future without the intensity of those past negative experiences overflowing into your present. Creating a more manageable life.
