What is therapy?

Individual therapy is a collaborative process between client and therapist. You participate in an intake assessment and we work together to develop treatment and wellness goals. The therapy space is a safe and nonjudgmental place for you to reflect, learn about yourself, and develop skills to meet your chosen goals. In my practice I use client-centered, strengths-based, and experiential approaches to guide and support you through managing symptoms and stressors, letting go of the past, and moving you towards your desired future.

What is telehealth & why use it?

Telehealth is a secure, convenient, and effective way to benefit from counseling. Telehealth appointments are held online through HIPAA secure platform and allows you to attend counseling sessions from the convenience of your home or other private space. This option can be helpful if getting to an in-person appointment is not convenient or desired. The process is easy to set up and streamlines paperwork, billing, and payment. Currently, I am only able to see clients located in the state of Pennsylvania for therapy services while coaching services are nationwide.

Is therapy for me?

Our lives are full of ups, downs, and in-betweens; so how do you know if therapy is right for you?

Therapy can help anyone who wants to make changes in their lives and isn't sure where to begin or wants the extra support and accountability. You might have days that are difficult to get through, nights you are losing sleep, or relationships that aren't successful. Perhaps you find yourself questioning your abilities, criticizing yourself or others around you harshly, having trouble concentrating or completing tasks, feeling unable to manage your emotions, thoughts, or feelings. If you are facing hard times, unexpected changes, or life altering experiences; you don't have to do it alone! Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.

If this is your first time pursuing therapy, please know you are not alone in your reservations. We have been taught to rely on ourselves and needing help is a weakness. The truth is, seeking out help and support is a strength. No one person can hold all the knowledge to do all things. Reaching out and getting support in whatever form you choose it, takes bravery. Therapy is not an easy process of talking and leaving. It is a process of collaboration, commitment, trust, honesty, self-discovery, and growth. It can be very hard at times to face and challenge yourself at the level necessary for change. The work and effort that goes into your personal growth, resilience, and recovery extends beyond sessions. You will get out of therapy what you put into it.

Next steps & What to expect

1

Go to the Contact Me page and fill out of the information on the form or call/text the number provided. Once received we will schedule a brief call (video or phone) so I can get some basic information, a sense of the type of support you are looking for, and answer any questions you have. If we both feel we are a good fit to work together we will schedule an intake session.

4

Once you feel safe, supported, stable, and ready we will move on to the next stage of treatment - desensitization and reprocessing. This is when we work through the triggers and materials causing disruption in your present life. We rely heavily on the preparations made in the previous phases to help you remain grounded, calm, and present while managing life, unlearning negative patterns, and navigating the challenges of treatment.

2

Prior to the intake session you will receive initial intake paperwork to fill out and return before we meet. This allows me to prepare an individualized intake session. During the intake session we will review informed consents, policies and procedures, your rights and responsibilities as a client, explore your goals, strengths, interests, and desired changes. We will also begin to complete assessments to help me better understand who you are, where to start, and how best to support you.

5

At this stage, you have successfully obtained relief and have learned many new skills, strategies, and insights. Now we pull it all together and are working towards preparing you for your future after therapy. We create plans and templates for possible relapses of symptoms or exposures to new stressful events.  This phase helps to ensure you have a sense of direction, purpose, and intention for the duration of your life's journey.

3

After we have completed the intake process and  agreed upon a treatment plan, we will begin working on safety and stabilization while continuing to get to know each other. These early sessions will focus on developing coping strategies, life skills, practicing new habits, using supports, creating resources, psychoeducation, and improving emotional tolerance. It is the expectation for you to practice what we use in sessions in your everyday life.

6

In the final phase, we work together to ensure you feel prepared and ready to end therapy. This is also highly individualized, like all other stages of treatment. We discuss your level of comfort to decrease the frequency of sessions at a pace best suited for you. This can be decreasing to bi-weekly, monthly, or drop-in booster sessions. Of course, if along the road you feel the need for additional support, you are always welcome to return!
